Agrégé et docteur en histoire contemporaine, il a consacré sa thèse à la participation des mathématiciens à la vie politique dans l’Italie risorgimentale et libérale, publiée sous le titre La Quadature du cercle. Les mathématiciens et la vie parlementaire (1848–1913) (Éditions rue d’Ulm, 2018). Ses travaux actuels portent sur les mobilités savantes – bourses de voyage – et contraintes – exils politiques dans le cadre de l’ANR jeunes chercheurs AsilEuropeXIX – dans l’Europe du XIXe siècle. Thèmes de recherche : Histoire des sciences exactes au XIXe siècle, circulation des intellectuels et des étudiants, France et Italie, Histoire des universités. Les recherches d’Antonin Durand se sont poursuivies selon une double direction : 1/l’étude des conditions de l’asile offert aux exilés politiques dans l’Europe du XIXe siècle dans le cadre du programme ANR AsileuropeXIX ; 2/l’étude des mobilités étudiantes au départ de France et d’Italie de la fin du XIXe siècle à la Seconde Guerre mondiale, en particulier dans le cadre du programme ANR « Global Youth » sur la Cité internationale étudiante de Paris.

Antonin Durand is scientific coordinator of the department “Global” at IC Migrations. HE holds an agrégation and a PhD in contemporary history, he devoted his PhD to the involvemen of mathematicians in political life during the Italian Risorgimento (La Quadrature du cercle. Les mathématiciens dans la vie parlementaire (1848–1913), Paris, Presses de la rue d’Ulm, 2018).
He is currently working on student mobility – travel scholarships – and forced migrations in the 19th century – political exiles with the ANR program AsileuropeXIX. Research topics : History of exact sciences in the 19th century, circulation of intellectuals and students, France and Italy, History of universities. Antonin Durand’s research has continued in two directions : 1/study of the conditions of asylum offered to political exiles in 19th century Europe within the framework of the ANR AsileuropeXIX program ; 2/study of student mobility from France and Italy from the end of the 19th century to the Second World War, in particular within the framework of the ANR « Global Youth » program on the Cité Internationale Étudiante de Paris. |
