Call for papers – 2021 Edition.

IV Workshop on Formal and Informal Institutions for Growth and Development

PARIS, November 22–23, 2021

*** DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF PAPERS : September 6, 2021 ***

Since 2018, the Centre d’Économie de la Sorbonne (CES) organizes a workshop on the role of formal and informal institutions in economic choices and, ultimately, on growth and development.

The workshop features contributions in the fields of development economics, political economics, economic history, law and economics, environmental economics, financial economics, economics of migration, labour and family economics.

Different approaches, ranging from empirical, to historical, experimental, or theoretical are welcome.

Programmes of the previous editions are available at different pages of this website : 2018, 2019, 2020.

Individuals, entrepreneurs, and policy-makers make relevant choices taking into account specific constraints of the households, organizations, markets, and countries in which they live and operate. Accordingly, an enormous body of research has discussed how such constraints are shaped by social and legal norms, which in turn arise from traditions, culture and political choices.

In the light of existing literature, further research is needed to improve the understanding of these “humanly devised constraints” and the related policy implications.

This workshop aims at creating a forum to discuss cutting-edge research connecting in a causal way institutional features to economic outcomes in well-defined contexts to take into account relevant heterogeneity between societies and economic environments when formulating policy implications.

Researchers interested in presenting their work at the workshop can send a .pdf file of the draft paper (or long abstract) to workshop-institutions@univ-paris1.fr before September 6, 2021.

Notification of acceptance will be communicated soon after the deadline.

There are no registration fees for presenting authors, however no travel and accomodation costs can be reimbursed. Coffee breaks and meals during the workshop are offered to speakers.

The workshop will be organized in thematic plenary sessions and will host the presentation of about 10 papers. About 45 minutes will be dedicated to presentation and discussion of each paper.

The Workshop will take place on November 22–23, 2021.

Conditional on the sanitary context, the workshop is expected to take place at the Maison des Sciences Économiques, 106–112 bd de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris.

The organizing committee includes researchers from different CES departments : Laetitia Duval, Morgane Laouenan, Hélène Latzer, Michela Limardi, Léa Marchal, Laurine Martinoty, Mathilde Maurel, Luigi Moretti, Jérôme Valette.

The workshop is financed by CES-AAP 2021.
