17th Migration Summer School

Migration and the Pandemic : Taking Stock and Thinking Ahead

The Migration Policy Centre is now taking applications for the 2021 online edition of the Migration Summer School, which will take place from 28th June – 9th July 2021.

The 17th Migration Summer School will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on global migration while also seeking to learn lessons and think ahead. The Summer School will provide an opportunity for participants to be able to contextualise and evaluate patterns and trends in global migration, assess the extent to which these have been affected by the pandemic, and do so in a genuinely global context. To achieve this objective, high-level scientific expertise will be blended with extensive scope for participants to discuss their own ideas and to develop an enhanced perspective on their own professional and career development.

Application Deadline : 15 April 2021

Through an innovative approach to online provision, the 17th Migration Summer School will address key themes and topics in global migration. Participants will be supported by extensive background material, live webinars, group work, individual drop-in sessions with tutors plus sessions during which participants can present their own projects. The following eight substantive topics will be addressed throughout this year’s course :

  • Migration drivers
  • Migration impacts
  • Migration governance, including ‘global governance’
  • Migration data, including attitudes to migration
  • Migration and development
  • Labour migration
  • Citizenship and integration
  • Asylum and refugee protection
